In considering the multiple ways we can interpret archetypal combinations, perhaps these simple rules* can help us to focus:

Transit-to-Transit (Mundane Aspects or World Transits):

- Planet One acts upon Planet Two
- Planet Two acts upon Planet One
- Stalemate between the two planets without movement
- Productive cooperative combination

Transit-to-Natal (Personal Aspects or Personal Transits):

- Transiting Planet overdoes its influence, overwhelms Natal Planet
- Transiting Planet combines harmoniously with Natal Planet, enhancing its expression
- Transiting Planet conflicts with Natal Planet, diminishing its expression, at least temporarily

For Natal Aspects:

- More likely that outer planets act upon inner planets than the reverse
- For two inners, or two outers, more possibility of influence in both directions

* Keeping in mind that these are purely suggestive and probably too simplistic. Richard Tarnas: "My experience is that many interactions between two planetary archetypes in hard aspect do not precisely fit within any of these categories:  Example:  The Pluto principle drives, intensifies, compels, in empowering or destructive ways, the Uranus principle. Uranus liberates, suddenly stimulates, awakens, in unexpected, creative, and often disruptive ways, Pluto... In general, Planet One and Planet Two each activate and act upon the other, in a mutually activating, interpenetrating, recursive way, that transcends or is much more complicated than domination, stalemate, and productive cooperation."
